The art of Tanjore painting

Tanjore painting is a major form of classical South Indian painting from the town of Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. Dating back to around 1600 AD, these paintings are known for their surface richness and vivid colours. Essentially serving as devotional icons, they are notable for their adornment with original gold foils, semi-precious stones, and glass pieces — bringing life to gods and goddesses through art and expertise.

These paintings carry an aura of richness and auspice. They blend well with any décor and add a touch of elegance, retaining their brilliance for decades. Ideal for pooja rooms, receptions, lobbies, and drawing rooms, Tanjore paintings also make thoughtful gifts for occasions like marriages, anniversaries, birthdays, and house-warming ceremonies.
